BOTOX Cosmetic

The BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure is a simple, 10 minute, non-surgical treatment we perform in our office for facial wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic is a form of purified Botulinum Toxin Type A. First approved in 1989, it was used to improve facial muscle spasms and to correct double vision due to muscle imbalance. In 2002, the FDA approved BOTOX® Cosmetic for the treatment of facial wrinkles. Dr. Greenberg treats frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet.

BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes muscles by blocking nerve impulses. The day of your treatment no anesthesia is required. Any discomfort is minimal and brief. Dr. Greenberg will administer several small does of BOTOX® Cosmetic directly into the specific muscle and once the muscle is relaxed, your skin will become smoother.

You can expect to be in and out of our office with no downtime. You will begin to see results 5-7 days after the injection and increase in intensity during the first week, reach a peak one month after treatment and continue for approximately 3-4 months. When it fades, the muscle action will return and the lines will begin to reappear. A simple, repeat treatment is all that is needed to maintain your desired result. Usually after each repetition, the results last a little longer.

You may experience a slight discomfort from the needle and a small chance of a bruise at the injection sight. There have been no permanent side effects from the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic. Approximately 1% of patients will develop a slight, temporary lowering of the eyelid.

BLEPHAROPLASTY (EYELID SURGERY)

Dr. Greenberg performs a procedure called blepharoplasty, which removes excess fat and skin that has deposited in your upper eyelids. As you age, your muscles weaken and these fat deposits above your eyelids cause them to droop. For many, this droopiness is not only a cosmetic problem but also interferes with vision.

Blepharoplasty is performed on an outpatient basis and takes approximately one to two hours to complete. Most people experience little discomfort during the procedure, which is performed under local anesthesia with a mild sedative to relax you. The incisions will be made along the natural crease of your eyelids so that when the incisions heal they will not be noticeable.

After your blepharoplasty procedure, you will experience some temporary swelling and bruising. You will be instructed to apply ice packs for the first week. Your eyelids may feel tight and sore after the anesthesia wears off but we will control any discomfort you may have with pain medication. Bruising varies from person to person, reaching its peak during the first week and generally lasting two weeks to one month. Temporary blurred vision is common right after blepharoplasty due to the ointment used to lubricate and protect your eyes during the procedure. You may also experience dry eyes and we will prescribe eye drops to alleviate this. Your stitches will be removed in our office one week after your procedure. You can resume normal activities within one week but you must avoid strenuous activities and heavy lifting for three weeks.

If you are interested in scheduling blepharoplasty you must first schedule an appointment with Dr. Greenberg. At this appointment you will meet Dr. Greenberg who will evaluate the condition and health of your eyes, discuss your motivation for having blepharoplasty and your expectations after the procedure. We will then review your medical history, conduct diagnostic testing, and take photographs of your eyes from several angles. If you are a good candidate and decide to proceed, you will meet with our surgical counselor who will schedule your procedure, answer any additional questions and review the pre-operative instructions with you.
